Provide a summary of the project or program:
Our mission is to restore dignity and peace of mind to vulnerable adults through professional guardianship and advocacy when there is nobody else.
Through guardianship, powers of attorney, trust management, personal escrow services, and low-bono legal services, Louisiana Guardianship Services, Inc. (LGSI) serves developmentally disabled and incapacitated elders across Louisiana. LGSI employs Nationally Certified Guardians, and is the state government's sole provider of guardianship and representative payee services.
Description of Use of Funds
Louisiana Guardianship Services, Inc. (LGSI) respectfully requests continued and expanded funding to support essential services for vulnerable adults under court-appointed curatorship throughout the state.
The requested $50,000, which was also appropriated in FY 2025, will continue funding for curator services for indigent and elderly individuals who have been interdicted and lack family or financial resources to provide for their personal and financial protection. These funds directly support case management, legal compliance, and ongoing monitoring necessary to safeguard clients’ rights, benefits, and well-being.
An additional $30,000 is requested to establish a part-time paralegal/law clerk position to assist LGSI attorneys with legal filings, court communications, and case documentation for indigent clients served through our state contracts and judicial appointments. This position will enhance efficiency, improve responsiveness, and expand LGSI’s capacity to serve.
Finally, $15,000 is requested to fund a survey and impact evaluation, including contracting with a professional data analyst to design, monitor, and analyze survey results. The evaluation will measure LGSI’s effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and overall impact on the protection and quality of life of Louisiana’s vulnerable adults.
