Provide a summary of the project or program:
The Woodmere Community Youth Center is designed to serve as a model, multi-purpose complex dedicated to the growth, development, and empowerment of youth and youth-serving organizations in the Woodmere community. The center was created in response to a growing need for safe, structured, and developmentally rich environments where young people can learn, explore, and build the skills necessary to impact their futures, families, and society. Many youth-based organizations in the area currently lack consistent access to safe, reliable spaces to host programs, events, and services. The Woodmere Community Youth Center provides an innovative, community-centered solution to this challenge.

The mission of the center is to provide safe, innovative, and growth-centered environments that prepare youth to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The facility will operate as a hub for youth development, offering flexible spaces for tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, recreation, arts, technology, and community engagement. By bringing multiple youth-serving groups under one roof, the center strengthens collaboration, reduces barriers to participation, and expands opportunities for young people across the Westbank.

The center’s multi-purpose design allows it to support a wide range of programs, including after-school enrichment, summer learning, workforce readiness, health and wellness activities, and family engagement events.

Youth organizations will be able to reserve space to run their own programs, ensuring that the center functions not only as a provider of services but also as an anchor institution that amplifies the work of existing community partners. This approach promotes sustainability, shared ownership, and a unified vision for youth success.
The Woodmere Community Youth Center aims to create an environment where young people feel safe, supported, and inspired. Through intentional programming, caring adults, and strong community partnerships, the center will help youth build confidence, develop leadership skills, and cultivate a sense of belonging. The long-term goal is to strengthen the social fabric of the Woodmere community by investing in its youngest members and ensuring they have the resources, relationships, and opportunities needed to reach their full potential.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The Woodmere Community Youth Center seeks to advance the public good by providing a safe, innovative, and developmentally rich environment that supports the growth and long-term success of youth across the Westbank. State funds will be used to expand access to high-quality youth development programs, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure that young people—particularly those in underserved neighborhoods—have consistent access to safe spaces, caring adults, and opportunities that promote academic achievement, social-emotional development, and positive life outcomes.
The center addresses a critical public need: many youth-serving organizations in the Woodmere area lack reliable, affordable, and secure facilities to host programs, events, and services. This gap limits the availability of after-school enrichment, mentoring, leadership development, recreation, and family engagement opportunities. By establishing a multi-purpose complex designed specifically for youth development, the center provides an innovative solution that benefits not only individual young people but the broader community.
The public purpose of this project is grounded in three core goals. First, the center will promote public safety by offering structured, supervised environments that reduce youth exposure to unsafe conditions and provide positive alternatives during high-risk hours. Second, it will support educational advancement by offering tutoring, academic enrichment, technology access, and partnerships with schools and community organizations. Third, it will strengthen community well-being by serving as a hub where families, youth organizations, and local partners can collaborate to meet shared needs.
State funds will enable the center to acquire essential resources—such as equipment, technology, furnishings, and program materials—that ensure the facility can operate at a high standard and serve a wide range of youth. These investments will directly support programming that builds leadership skills, fosters creativity, promotes physical and mental wellness, and prepares young people for future careers. By supporting youth development, the center contributes to long-term economic stability, reduced crime, stronger family engagement, and a more connected community.
Ultimately, the Woodmere Community Youth Center exists to create equitable access to opportunities that help young people thrive. The use of state funds will advance a clear public purpose: strengthening Louisiana’s future by investing in its youth today. The center will serve as a model for how community-based facilities can uplift young people, support local organizations, and contribute to a safer, healthier, and more vibrant community.
