Friends of Bayou St. John (FBSJ) seeks to move the 2022 Bayou St. John Visioning Study from concept into implementation-ready projects. This funding will allow us to build upon the existing study to identify projects for implementation. The resulting project(s) will contribute to the overall quality of life for residents by providing a healthy Bayou St. John that is accessible to all. FBSJ will procure a consultant to support the project. We will do this in three phases:
Phase 1 — Vision Confirmation
Refine the 2022 Vision Plan with updated illustrative graphics, host a public community meeting to confirm the vision's goals and gather feedback, and meet with City agencies that have jurisdiction over the bayou's right-of-way to understand regulatory requirements and align priorities.
Phase 2 — Project Identification
Working from community and stakeholder input FBSJ will identify priority pilot projects for early implementation. Projects will be evaluated based on regulatory complexity, community and environmental benefit, cost, funding potential, and realistic timelines.
Phase 3 — Concept Design
Advance selected projects to a conceptual design level — sufficient detail to support future grant applications. Consultant will also develop a grant matrix to identify additional funding sources for FBSJ to pursue.
