What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Providing access to a diverse student population is embedded in the philosophy of Loyola.

Loyola recognizes disability as an aspect of diversity that is integral to society and to the campus community.

To this end, the university collaborates with students, instructors, staff, and community members to create usable, equitable, inclusive and sustainable learning environments.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          1. Loyola seeks $150,000.00 to address ADA compliance issues in its Sports Complex as well as in some restrooms in our building. Some of the oldest buildings have no or limited accessible restrooms, impacting the ability of those in wheelchairs to fully use/access these buildings. The University Sports Complex needs renovations to its bathrooms. The Sports Medicine and locker rooms are not fully wheelchair accessible. The university has had issues with student athletes sustaining injuries and requiring wheelchair assistance but being unable to access locker rooms or Sports Medicine areas because they are not fully wheelchair accessible.

2. Loyola seeks to address ADA accessibility in its classrooms, and Loyola requests $400,000.00 to address this critical need. Many of the classrooms do not have accessible classroom furniture or accessible classroom layouts. This is currently being addressed through processes to avoid scheduling students with known access needs for classes in the non-accessible classrooms. This requires additional staff/advising time to ensure students are scheduled appropriately; classes are moved/relocated based upon student need.

3. Loyola also requests $150,000.00 to address accessibility needs in its residence halls and internal sidewalks and passageways. Some of the residence halls need upgrades and renovations to increase accessible spaces. Although Loyola is currently meeting the minimum numbers, its student population requires more spaces. In addition, some renovations in bathrooms in residence halls are needed to ensure accessibility. Further , the campus grounds and green spaces require renovations to ensure accessibility. For example, the courtyard for the Danna Center (student center) is not accessible. There are a number of curb cuts that are required on the university's private/internal passageways/paths/sidewalks (i.e. not City/public rights of way) to allow its students to fully traverse the campus without any impediments. Loyola also needs to restripe and reconfigure spaces in our two parking garages to ensure the correct number of handicap parking spots are available to our campus community.

4. These issues have been identified based upon student complaints, faculty/staff complaints, as well as reference to a campus accessibility study that was completed several years ago. In consultation with Loyola’s Office of Accessible Education, the university should get a new/updated campus accessibility study to allow for the creation of an ADA Map for use by its students/faculty/staff.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
