§837. Assessment on insurance premiums; method of collection; disbursement
A. In addition to all other taxes and assessments, each insurer other than a life insurer
shall be assessed and within sixty days after December thirty-first of each year shall pay to
the commissioner of insurance a sum equal to one-fourth of one percent of the amount of
premiums received in this state by such insurer during the preceding year ending December
thirty-first. Such assessment shall be imposed on all insurance premiums received for the
insurance against loss or damage by fire of property of whatever nature and kind in the state
of Louisiana.
B. Each insurer shall submit to the commissioner of insurance a just and true
account, as verified by one of its officers or other person having authority to verify such
accounts of the total insurance premiums received by such insurer for insurance premiums
for insurance of property of whatever nature and kind from loss or damage by fire in the state
of Louisiana during the year ending December thirty-first of each year.
C. The state treasurer shall credit the proceeds from such assessment to the Louisiana
State Fire Marshal Fund as provided in R.S. 22:835 to be used solely for the expenses in
connection with the in-service fireman training program and the necessary facilities in
connection therewith.
