What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Recently, the Louisiana Department of Education gave Bogalusa City Schools a grade of D, lower than the average C for the entire state. Many youth in Washington Parish are not only struggling academically but also lack the necessary tools to thrive in a safe environment which encourages them to be healthier, improve their behavioral issues, a positive social environment with year-round activities available to the community after school and during the summer months.

Since the Bogalusa school system is below state grade averages, the YMCA extensively works with local schools to improve students’ grades with its afterschool tutoring program. This program helps to ensure that local students will have an opportunity to succeed while preparing them for the future by giving them an opportunity to receive the necessary tutoring sometimes required to advance their grade level. With this program, the YMCA has identified more specific needs of these children who often do not receive guidance and structure away from the classroom or this organization. As the young participants grow, they also struggle with behavioral and development issues which also impacts their learning abilities. The YMCA strives to expand this program by incorporating a Leaders Club in 2019 for more area students to further promote youth development and ensure that area children have access to proper techniques and opportunities to learn skills to graduate high school, to prepare for a career, to overcome social challenges and to be assets in their community. This grant will help to grow these programs with the addition of an instructor, operational expenses, supplies, equipment and repairs for the facility that houses the youth and members receive these offerings. These repairs include new roofing to the main building, concrete slab around the pool, a new pool light, the replacement of equipment at the Y’s skateboard park, new equipment in the indoor gym, the replacement of ceiling tiles and new lighting inside the building.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
