           Acadiana Legal Service Corporation is a private, non-profit law firm providing free legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents in 42 parishes. This request for funding is to provide quality representation in cases related to divorce, child custody, adoption, veterans ' and other public benefits, unemployment , landlord-tenant and homeownership, wills and estates, consumer problems, as well as other types of civil matters. Our services to eligible clients include: referrals; counsel and advice; brief services; negotiation; and representation in
administrative and court proceedings. As a result of COVID and Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Nicholas and Ida, we are seeing a surge in demand from persons unable to afford legal help.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          This funding would allow us to provide legal assistance to more individuals than our current funding allows, especially those facing the new challenges posed by COVID and four hurricanes. Presently, we are forced to turn away an unacceptably large percentage of very-low- income citizens due to our limited resources.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          One of the goals of this project is to expand outreach in under-served rural areas. A second is to provide legal help specifically tailored to legal problems caused by COVID-19, the other natural disasters, and the expiration of the CDC moratoriums on evictions. A third goal is to greatly expand our community legal education and outreach so that many can avoid legal problems and others in need of our services are aware of our availability to assist them in resolving those issues. The objective of all of our work is to provide access to the civil justice system for those who would otherwise be unable to afford qualified help to resolve their legal problems.
