           This capital outlay funding request will provide relocation and much needed upgrades to the operating rooms and other procedure rooms at University Hospital & Clinics in Lafayette, LA. Existing space has not been modified since the original construction in 1977 and needs to be brought up to existing building code and FGI Guidelines. Anticipated new construction space of 16,500 s.f. and renovation of approximately 3,500 s.f. This space will greatly enhance the GME (Graduate Medical Education) educational experience for medical students and residents in training. Additionally, this newly reconfigured space will allow for more efficient patient throughput and access to care.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          The public purpose to be served by the use of state monies will be to greatly enhance the state-owned facility's operating room's and procedural room's environment by which healthcare services are delivered to residents of our state. These much needed upgrades to the operating rooms and other procedure rooms at University Hospital & Clinics in Lafayette, LA will provide a better learning environment for GME (Graduate Medical Education)residents in training, the physician faculty that oversees their training and provision of higher quality care and outcomes to patients who are treated at this facility. By enticing more medical residents to train here, it is much easier to recruit and place physicians in our region and our state. What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          Patients from our state will benefit by having greater access to services with the long term benefit to our region and state being more medical students will be attracted to train in an environment that is more conducive to learning. It is a fact that ~70% of residents choose to remain and practice within a 75 mile radius of where they complete their residency program. Additionally, another goal is to have greater patient throughput for our operating rooms and procedural areas to allow for more access to care which is a constant challenge for our population. Lastly, the newly constructed and renovated environment will allow for ease of infection prevention with state of the art interior finishes.
