What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum is a 501 c 3 organized for the purposes of educating the public about the heritage, history, and connection of Louisiana, the lower Mississippi Delta and the Gulf Coast. We are an educational non-profit that collects, preserves, researches, and interprets the history, culture, and environment through our exhibits and interactive programs. School and homeschool field trips, guided tours to visitors, both in state and out of state, outreach programs, newsletters and social media send our message into our ever-changing market. We are the only maritime museum in the state and as such is focused on our mission of "Bringing Louisiana's Unique Maritime History to Life". We integrate academic disciplines, preserve and restore, teach wooden boat building, serve as custodian of the Tchefuncte River Light Station, and increase learning opportunities while stimulating authentic learning experiences and opportunities which increase environmental literacy. We support Louisiana Environmental Education Key Principles and Concepts by aligning available resources with Louisiana state student standards.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
We have weathered many storms in our short history... from major hurricanes and floods to pandemics. We have adapted and overcome, working tirelessly with a small staff of primarily part-time employees and volunteers. The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum has partnered with donors, members, volunteers and outside agencies. However, we are at a point where we can no longer provide a high-quality environmental program without funds. We are requesting funds to strategically integrate our learning opportunities. Our goals are:
1.Construct an outdoor environmental-friendly, sustainable classroom
2. Develop activities, lesson plans, and outdoor lab experiments to develop meaningful learning experiences that connect and deepen the understanding of our unique Louisiana environment.
3. Build opportunities for professional development for teachers and students. Connect resources and people to support learning in core academic areas.
4. Provide additional resources for class visits, out-of-school-times, and museum guests by purchasing equipment and materials for technology, audio-visual equipment, displays and exhibits.
5 Equip, encourage, and engage the community through environmental education and multisensory experiences including but not limited to wetlands restoration, plant and animal habitats, water safety, water quality; environmental Eco-Tours; inclusion of diverse populations; and awareness of local maritime industries (Energy, remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles, environmental service agencies, etc) through leadership and career development of our education abilities.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
We are estimating 10 months to complete after funding
