Provide a summary of the project or program:
October 19, 1980, the Mu Zeta Foundation headquarters was constructed; located at 2021 Harding Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The structure is 2200 square feet, featuring a foyer, large reception area, two full size restrooms, a fully furnished kitchen, a corridor, and three storage rooms. The house also serves as home to many philanthropic endeavors such as assisting disadvantaged women receiving needed services to learn how to care for their infant, facilitation of scholarship disbursement to deserving area students, mentoring and tutelage services to K-12 students, meal preparations for the homeless and seniors within the community, and culture endeavor for non-degreed women. The purchase of this property was truly historic, as it marked the first sorority house erected and owned by Black women in Louisiana. An additional history note, the land for the house was purchased in 1968 and the planning ensued on house construction in 1979. The Building Committee was able to retain the services of Mr. Henry Thurman, who was a notable architect in Baton Rouge. He was the first African-American registered architect in Louisiana and he was also the founder of Southern University's School of Architecture and College of Engineering. While the property has greatly served the needs of the Foundation since 1980, it is limited in internal spacing for all the endeavors that the Foundation undertakes. Specifically, adhering to best practice recommendations from Mentoring.org, a nationally leading resource on youth mentorship, recommends that mentored youth are separated by age groups. This recommendation has been difficult to implement with the property's current spacing. Additional services rendered by the Foundation to disadvantaged pregnant women, seniors, and the homeless are limited by the space of the property. Pre-COVID-19, the foundation found itself having to limit the number of clientele served because of the limited space of the property. Therefore, Capital Outlay funds are being requested to expand the property to allow for the additional space to be added so that the current cadre of services can be offered and expanded to meet the needs of the clientele serviced by the Foundation.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
To enlarge the Mu Zeta Foundation facilities so that we may be able to better serve the greater Baton Rouge community by improving the educational, social, and well-being of the clientele we support.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The monies would assist with the expansion of the building to better serve the GBR community. The Mu Zeta Foundation supports disadvantaged women, children, elderly and other members of the community by providing much needed services such as pre-natal care for women, mentoring for youth, and serving food on weekends and holidays. The addition to our facilities will bridge a social and economical gap and ease a small financial burden on the people of the community.
What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
This will be an ongoing endeavor.
