Provide a summary of the project or program:
This planned JA Discovery Center is slated to open in 2025, will be located in EBR and house a 25,000 sq foot immersive learning facility where middle and high school students will practice work readiness, business and personal finance experiences. They will apply economic
education concepts, learning how to participate in the free enterprise system as they connect with their future selves. This model "city" will include a Career Skill Building Center and twenty business model retail locations as part of two capstone JA programs -JA BizTown and JA Finance Park. After receiving JA's economic curriculum in the classrooms, students come to the JA Discovery Center where they become "adults for a day". In their immersive experience, they will run a city, vote for elected officials, act as business owners, employers and employees. They will spend the day working in their "businesses" to reach business goals and will practice household budgeting as they learn to manage their "family" budget. JA uses curriculum and innovation to help
teens experience the world of work, business, and personal finance in a “learn-by-doing” experience.
This facility will serve thousands of middle and high school students each year throughout ten (10) Greater Baton Rouge parishes and will be located in East Baton Rouge Parish.
