Provide a summary of the project or program:
Expanding access to youth sports and physical activity at the Paula G. Manship YMCA located at 8100 YMCA Plaza Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70810. Installation of turf fields will allow for greater access by a wider range of participants up to including those with disabilities, youth, and seniors.

YMCA youth sports encourage and promote health kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, health competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and mutual respect for others. The Y serves more than 1,500 youth annually through recreational youth sports.

Youth sports can have immense short-and long-term physical benefits for participants. Youth sports increase the opportunities for children and adolescents to engage in consistent physical activity and develop important motor skills. By increasing regular activity levels, youth may avoid excessive eating, increase caloric expenditure, and become more likely to continue their active lifestyle into adulthood. Participants in youth sports also enjoy a range of social benefits, such as relationship-building, skill development, and positive interpersonal behaviors.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Access to youth sports is important for several reasons, as supported by research and experts in the field:
Physical health: Participating in youth sports can help prevent obesity and promote long-term exercise habits. Adolescents who play sports are eight times more likely to be physically active at age 24 than those who do not play.
Mental and emotional health: Youth who engage in sports gain mental and social health benefits that follow them into adulthood. Participation in sports has been linked to lower levels of depression and higher levels of academic achievement and creativity.
Social skills and community building: Youth sports help build social skills by bringing kids with similar interests together, encouraging interaction, and creating a community of shared interests and goals. Kids also learn about teamwork, healthy competition, good sportsmanship, and empathy — valuable social skills that extend into other areas of their lives.
Long-term benefits: Participating in youth sports can lead to immediate and long-term benefits for youth, their families, and communities. These benefits include improved mental, emotional, and social health, as well as economic and community impact.
Overall, access to youth sports is crucial for the well-being and development of young people. It not only promotes physical health but also contributes to mental, emotional, and social well-being, and helps build a sense of community and inclusion.

This project also allows access for adults to help increase physical activity. This can provide numerous benefits for adults, and some of the key benefits include: improved brain health, weight management, reduced risk of disease, stronger bones and muscles, improved ability to do everyday activities, better sleep quality, enhanced mood and reduced feelings of depression, better cognitive function and more.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Our goals and objectives of increasing access to youth sports include:
Youth sports can have immense short- and long-term physical benefits for participants. Youth sports increase the opportunities for children and adolescents to engage in consistent physical activity and develop important motor skills. Moreover, early and continued physical activity increases the likelihood for youth to continue their active lifestyle into adulthood. While youth sports may have potential negative impacts, such as injuries or flawed safety measures, the short- and long-term physical benefits are significant, such as decreased risks of diabetes, obesity, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease. Positive outcomes include increased physical activity, enhanced fitness, lifelong physical, emotional, and health benefits, decreased risk of obesity, minimizes development of chronic disease, improves health, and improves motor skills.
Youth sports enable children and adolescents to engage in consistent physical activity, which youth often lack, and prevents obesity. By increasing regular activity levels, youth may avoid excessive eating, increase caloric expenditure, and become more likely to continue their active lifestyle into adulthood. Early and continued active lifestyles have also been shown to decrease the risk of diabetes and obesity in males and females and decrease the risk of breast cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease in females.
Additionally, increased access to youth sports and physical activity enhances social skills, provides life insurance, improves positive social behaviors, enhances time management skills, improves academic achievement, helps to develop passion and goal setting, and improves character.
