Provide a summary of the project or program:
The YMCA is requesting assistance for the repair and renovation of the swimming pool at the C.B. Pennington Jr YMCA location located at 15550 Old Hammond Hwy. (70816) in Baton Rouge.

In Louisiana, drowning was the third leading cause of injury-related death in children ages 0-14 for the 2017-2019 period, according to the most recent Louisiana Child Death Review Report from the LDH. According to the CDC, formal swimming lessons can reduce drowning by 88%, and pool renovations are urgent to ensure the YMCA can continue offering lessons.

The YMCA works to address this urgent need by increasing access to life-saving water safety education and swimming lessons. YMCA pools are vital to the Baton Rouge community, as they offer the largest drowning prevention programs in the area. Teaching children how to swim and be safe in and around water is one of the most important life skills we can help children learn. It not only saves lives; it builds confidence. The Y is committed to identifying needs within underserved communities and developing programming to serve those needs is at the core of how the Y serves the community. In addition to swim lessons and water safety programs, the YMCA pool is home to many swim teams as well as lifeguard training certification programs.
