What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The need for access to early care and education is more urgent now than ever with the looming child care cliff and the potential closure of child care programs and the subsequent loss of child care spots for millions of children in the U.S. This critical need could have far-reaching impacts on families, caregivers, and the economy as a whole. Some of the key impacts of a child care cliff could include detrimental effects on children’s development and well-being, parents may be forced to leave the workforce or reduce their hours to provide care for their children, create an economic ripple effect, and bring greater challenges to the local child care industry.

This crucial project can also support Louisiana employers who typically lose a significant amount of money every year from employee absences and turnover due to child care issues. The University of Louisiana and Louisiana Policy Institute study in 2022 found that parent absences from work attributed to the lack of child care cost the Louisiana economy $1.3 billion annually.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Expanding access to early childhood education is a crucial goal for our community. This project will work to:
Increase the number of high-quality early childhood education programs: High-quality programs have been shown to have a positive impact on children's learning and development. By increasing the number of these programs, more children will have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
Create more early childhood education programs in neighborhoods that do not have enough: Access to early childhood education can vary depending on where a child lives. By creating more programs in underserved neighborhoods, specifically Mid City, the Y can help ensure that more children have access to the resources they need to succeed.
Provide support for families to access early childhood education: Many families face barriers to accessing early childhood education, such as cost or transportation. By providing support for families to overcome these barriers, organizations can help ensure that all children have access to the resources they need to succeed.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           9 months
