Provide a summary of the project or program:
The YMCA of the Capital Area has served the Baton Rouge community since 1917, focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA is requesting assistance in building a new airnasium at the Dow Westside YMCA located at 3688 Sugar Plantation Pkwy., Addis, LA 70710.

The obesity epidemic is a global public health challenge, and Louisiana ranks in the top ten states as having the highest obesity rates. There is increasing recognition that community-based approaches have merit in addressing the root causes of obesity through integrated community-level changes. The YMCA works to ensure access to physical activity for all, and this project will enhance infrastructure and programming by building an airnasium that can help transform communities and reach new heights in West Baton Rouge.

An airnasium can be a valuable addition to a community for several reasons. It can help to promote physical activity for more community members, enhance social connections, improve the quality of life, provide opportunities for fun and leisure, offer space for events and activities, address community needs with outside equipment, and airnasiums can be part of larger community development initiatives.

A new airnasium at the Dow Westside YMCA can help the YMCA continue to serve people across their lifespan by offering programs and services that support individuals at every stage of life. It will support local pickleball, youth in summer camp, community events, help adults increase physical activity, and more.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
An airnasium is an open-air gym. The YMCA's future airnasium will have a roof and open walls. It will offer covered court spaces for a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, squash, racquetball, handball, and more. Some of the project's goals and objectives include:
Provide a unique and engaging recreational experience: The airnasium should offer a fun and exciting environment for people of all ages to enjoy. This can be achieved through the use of innovative equipment, creative programming, and a focus on community satisfaction.
Promote health and wellness: The airnasium should encourage physical activity and provide a space for people to exercise and stay active. This can be done by offering a variety of fitness classes, hosting community events, and partnering with local health organizations.
Support the local economy: The airnasium should contribute to the economic growth of the community by creating jobs, attracting visitors, and partnering with local businesses. This can be achieved through strategic marketing efforts, community outreach, and a commitment to providing a high-quality experience for customers.
Foster community engagement: The airnasium should serve as a gathering place for the community, where people can come together to socialize, learn, and have fun. This can be done by hosting events, offering educational programs, and partnering with local schools and organizations.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           12 months
