Provide a summary of the project or program:
The Easter Seals Louisiana Chartwell Center is a small, alternate education center serving children and adults with Autism in the greater New Orleans area. Our mission is to change the way the world defines
disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day. The Center was originally founded by parents who could not find services for their children in either the private
or public sector. Now in its 25th year, The Chartwell Center became part of Easterseals Louisiana in 2022. The Center currently serves students ages 3 to 35. All students have been diagnosed with ASD, and most of them are on the severe and profound end of the spectrum, i.e., their needs are
significant. Our services are a lifeline for parents who have often been unable to obtain
appropriate services for their children in traditional settings. Our Center is unique in that it helps its students develop academic, behavioral, vocational, and life skills and uses research based
practices including applied behavioral analysis, community-based instruction, and arts integration. The Center’s budget is based on a 2:1 to 3:1 student-teacher ratio. Unlike other nonprofits in the
area serving individuals with autism, we do not turn away prospective students based on ability.
As a result, we enroll a disproportionate number of students with significant needs who require a 1:1 or even a 1:2 student-teacher ratio. To accommodate these students, we must employ 2 and 4 additional paraprofessionals in excess of the budgeted staffing model. In FY 2023, we
experienced a $165,000 budget deficit. We bridged a portion of the gap with fundraising, however, we are trending to face a similar budget deficit in 2024. Easterseals Louisiana respectfully requests $100,000 supplementary funding for FY 2025 to cover these expenses.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The mission of Easterseals Louisiana is to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives every day. Our Chartwell Center supports children and adults with profound disabilities. Many of these individuals require 1 to 1 staffing, however our budget is designed for a 2 to 1 to 3 to 1 student-teacher ratio. Unlike other nonprofits in the area serving individuals with autism, we do not turn away prospective students based on ability. As a result, we enroll a disproportionate number of students with significant needs and we must employ additional staff to meet these needs.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The goals of of our Easter Seals Louisiana Chartwell Center are; to meet the needs of underserved individuals who are unable to attend school in a traditional or even a special education setting. Our Center fills a void by enrolling students with the highest acuity levels and giving them an opportunity to thrive via education, music, art and applied behavior analysis therapies, community integration and skills training. Our Center gives families hope and opportunities not otherwise available. We plan to use this General appropriation to continue to hire and train staff and teachers to meet the needs of the students.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           12 months
