What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The Hollygrove-Dixon Neighborhood Association seeks to enhance the health, safety, and quality of life for residents in the Hollygrove-Dixon community. The specific public purpose to be achieved through the expenditure of state monies is to increase the community’s resilience to extreme heat events. This will be accomplished through a neighborhood-wide Heat Study to identify which residents and households are most vulnerable to heat stress. Community scientists will engage directly with residents by going door to door, gathering information about their experiences with heat, access to cooling, and risk factors. This initiative aims to generate actionable data to inform community-driven solutions and foster environmental justice in an underserved neighborhood.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Goals:
1.Engage at least 10% of Hollygrove-Dixon households in a community heat survey.
2. Use survey findings to co-develop community-led solutions for heat mitigation.
Objectives:
1.Recruit and train 5 community scientists to conduct heat vulnerability assessments.
2.Develop a standardized survey tool to collect consistent data on resident experiences with extreme heat (e.g., symptoms, cooling resources, time spent outside, indoor temperatures).
3.Conduct outreach to at least 300 households through door-to-door canvassing, community events, and information sessions.
4.Collect and analyze survey data using basic statistical and spatial tools to identify patterns in vulnerability.
5.Host two community feedback sessions to share findings and build consensus around next steps, such as planting shade trees, promoting cooling centers, or advocating for infrastructure investments.
6.Create a public-facing report summarizing the study and recommendations for policy and programmatic responses.
What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
8 months
