           Funding for maintenance, preservation and expansion of Historic Riverlands Heritage site. In 1991, the original Our Lady of Grace Sanctuary was saved from demolition and moved to its permanent site at Cornland Plantation and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its local significance in areas of religion, social history and ethnic heritage. The mission of the Our Lady of Grace Sanctuary, a.k.a.: Historic Riverlands, is to tell the African American story from the plantation and days of Emancipation to today through various information formats of; teaching, film and music. This experience is an excellent teaching tool that enriches and empowers students from elementary to college. Students gain a multitude of knowledge about African American History and their musical contributions. The musical journey reveals many life lessons by, connecting what was happening in society with its musical creation, ie "what was going on in society when Blues music was created?". The highlight of course, is the pleasure of listening to each of the musical styles. Teachers are able to meet many of their Teaching Standards in History, Social Studies and Music with one field trip to Historic Riverlands. Because the music exhibit is housed within the walls of the historic sanctuary we are limited in exhibit space. This proposed project would not only allow us to continue maintaining and persevering but to expand our physical capacity to tell this authentic story. This historical journey of African Americans through their music is a "One of a Kind Amazing Cultural Experience" in our community, being preserved for the next generation.

          We are dedicated to enrich our youth from near and far with Social History, Ethnic Heritage and a Cultural experience through education, film and Music. This funding request aims to use the contribution from the State to help with the ongoing maintenance, operation, preservation and new expansion of Historic Riverlands Heritage Site in Reserve. As an outreach of the ministry Riverlands Christian Center Church current pays the majority operating and maintenance expenses and has provided the seed monies to begin the expansion project. The church staff and members willingly volunteer their time on a as needed basis when guest arrive. We have several fund raising events on the calendar and contribution request letters are being prepared to send to community business, friends and partners to help complete the expansion project.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          Continued preservation of this Historic Site, a Landmark in our community. The expansion project focus is to enhance our presentation conditions and provide a better learning experience by removing the music exhibit from with the walls of the sanctuary creating a stand alone exhibit. This would allow the students the space necessary to read the interpretive panels at eye level. The expansion would also allow space for the placement of each of our existing listening stations to be positioned next to each of the 18 interpretive panels. Student would then enjoy the liberty to move from the beginning panel 1 to the last panel 18 freely and at their own pace.
