Provide a summary of the project or program:
           BizCamp
The Institute (ICEI) offers a variety of programs, most notably, BizCamp.  BizCamp is a FREE entrepreneurship training program for middle school, high school, and Job Corps students!

The Institute (ICEI) created and launched Shreveport BizCamp in 2001 to service the Shreveport-Bossier City area. BizCamp is an intensive entrepreneur training and life skills program designed to expose low-income, at-risk students living within the inner city of Shreveport, Louisiana and surrounding area to the idea of forming a successful business. Inner-city and at risk youth learn the necessary skills to handle all facets of business ownership that will allow them to revitalize their community.

The BizCamp (NFTE) teaching module was created in 1988 by Dr. Steve Mariotti, who founded The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). The NFTE teaching model is designed to provide entrepreneurial education to low-income youth from marginalized communities and igniting the entrepreneurial mindset and talents that already existed within them. The NFTE teaching model is approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.

Students take a pre-test and post-test to evaluate their progress; students learn to develop their own business plan (BizPlan) and present it to a panel of volunteer local business owner judges. Student are given seed money to create a small table-top business and compete at the BizCamp Young Entrepreneur Market Place (YEMP) held at a local mall.

BizCamp is presently a joint collaboration among ICEI, local universities, Caddo Parish Schools and Shreveport Job Corps Center. ICEI’s mission is “to create a new crop of entrepreneurs for the 21st century”.

The two week intense curriculum includes classroom and computer lab instruction; guest speakers; field trips, BizPlan competition, Young Entrepreneur Market Place (YEMP) and graduation ceremony.

The Institute (ICEI) also supports entrepreneurial education in Local after school programs. ICEI collaborates with Volunteers of America on their Lighthouse after-school program, utilizing NFTE’s World Series of Innovation (WSI) at  Atkins Elementary, a K-5 school; J.S. Clark Academy, a K-6 school, Teckneshia Lewis, a 1st Grade Teacher, is a BizCamp Alumna; and a Bossier Parish location that has grades K-8.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          PUBLIC PURPOSE

The Inner City Entrepreneur Institute (ICEI) was founded in May 1998. ICEI’s purpose is to research ways to redevelop Shreveport’s deteriorating inner city communities through entrepreneurial education, business and community development, and investment.

"The Institute’s vision is to promote both business and residential initiatives resulting in the rebirth and growth of our own human potential by utilizing existing community assets and building national as well as international business relations."

The ICEI mission is "to start rebuilding Louisiana’s inner city economies (beginning with Shreveport/Bossier City) through entrepreneurial education and business investment, fostering a healthier inner city economy to create new jobs, increase income and wealth, and economic opportunities for inner city residents. ICEI’s youth mission is to create a new crop of entrepreneurs for perpetuity."

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Students learn the necessary skills to handle all facets of business ownership that will ultimately allow them to revitalize their communities.

1. Students will score higher on Post-assessment test versus Pre-assessment test.

2. Students will write a Business Plan and deliver a power-point presentation to a panel of local judges. Students are judged on Business Plan, with clear mission statement, support evidence and effective organization.

3. Students will design business cards and a table-top “Store Front” to display for the Young Entrepreneurs Marketplace activities.

4. Due to BizCamp being held in a college environment, the majority of our young students tend to adapt to their environment and appear more mature than their young ages. This is probably due to expectation and location.

5. After BizCamp, students are expected to become members of the Louisiana Young Entrepreneurs Club (LYE club). AS a member of the LYE Club, students participate in service and cultural enrichment activities such as the African American History Parade, Paint Your Heart Out and Sickle Cell softball tournament to encourage philanthropic and community involvement through volunteerism.
