Provide a summary of the project or program:
Centre for the Arts exists to create a safe environment for children and adults to discover, nurture, and expand their artistic abilities. We believe the arts unite people from all backgrounds and transform people and their communities.

Centre for the Arts fills a critical gap for the young people of Pointe Coupee parish. We work with all private and public schools to make students aware of the Centre’s offerings and our scholarship opportunities. We strive to be a part of a broader network of service providers.

Centre for the Arts has served the youth of Pointe Coupee since 2002, teaching thousands of students during after school hours as they discover and nurture their artistic abilities. Our organization has stewarded our building assets with the help of volunteers and individual donors. Currently, our building has degraded to the point of needing extra assistance if we will be able to also continue our programs for students. Below, I have outlined three possible paths for building improvement. If we accomplished everything listed below, the total cost estimated would be $51,071.

1. General Repair, Maintenance, & Safety:
Estimated Total: $23,131.84
a. Roof Replacement: We have maintained our metal roof by replacing all of the roofing screws several years ago, but that maintenance has reached its limit. This is our top priority for maintaining our building. Estimate from McConnell Roofing and Contracting: $20,904.00
b. Window Panel Replacement: Our storefront window that dates back several decades poses a safety risk with a crack in one of the panels. The minimal repair needed would be to replace the panel of the window that is cracked. Estimate from South Louisiana Glass: $1,327.84
c. Stucco Repair: Three of the columns on the front of our building need to be repaired before further damage to the underlying structure. Estimate from Dimas Construction: $1,000
2. Energy Efficiency:
Estimated Total: $37,404
a. Roof Replacement: See item 1a.
b. Window Replacement: Our storefront window is a single-paned window that allows a large amount of energy loss. We would love to retain the large window that is a fixture of our building that used to be a bakery for many decades. The New Roads community has many fond memories going to West End Bakery. So, to maintain the look of the old bakery along with saving money on energy costs, we proposed replacing the window completely with a double-paned, energy efficient window. Estimate from Big River Glass: $15,000
c. Insulation: After replacing our roof, we propose installing spray insulation underneath the new metal roof to improve energy efficiency as well. Estimate from A&E Insulation: $2,500
3. Program Enhancement
Estimated Total: $13,167
a. Dance Floor Replacement: When the Centre moved from a rented building to our current, owned building, we deconstructed and rebuilt our entire dance floor to save on costs. We have used this dance floor since 2009. It is used 4 days a week for dance, tumbling, boxing, musical theater, teen theater, and summer camp. We propose buying the materials for a new dance floor and building it with the help of volunteers. Estimated material costs from Stagestep: $13,167

As the Centre continues to serve the youth of Pointe Coupee, filling a critical gap of afterschool care for working parents, we are asking for the assistance that goes beyond our usual fundraising that supports our scholarship program.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Centre for the Arts exists to create a safe environment for children and adults to discover, nurture, and expand their artistic abilities. We provide accessible arts education at a time when the arts are underfunded or altogether unavailable.

In addition to arts education, the Centre fills a critical gap for working parents. As an additional resource for students to have a safe, educational space to attend after school hours, the Centre accepts bus riders from every school in Pointe Coupee parish. We provide snacks and light meals for students as well as homework help and tutoring.

Our teen scholarship program, Stars of the Centre, also has a mentorship purpose. Older students helping out with a younger student's homework or during a class has the opportunity to serve and set an example for their younger peers.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Improvements and repairs to our building allows the Centre to focus solely on our programs for students, including our scholarship fund.

Our goal is to ensure the longevity of our organization by maintaining our building, providing safety for our after school programs.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
This project should last about 6 months.
