Provide a summary of the project or program:
Numerous academic studies confirm that over 25% of all American adults were sexually abused as children. Instead of decreasing, that number is increasing through the power of the internet and social media. The hurt, pain, and trauma of childhood sexual abuse, if untreated, can affect a survivor in many ways—including physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual, through the course of a lifetime.
To assist survivors, a unified effort by spiritual leaders, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers is necessary. Failure to provide each component of the healing process reduces significantly the efficacy of the care provided. Silence Broken focuses upon the spiritual component of the healing process. Silence Broken will never charge a set fee for any service it provides or any materials it publishes.
The monies requested will provide Silence Broken the ability to expand ongoing outreach activities and to supplement its outreach activities. Specifically, Silence Broken will provide outreach presentations and information at conferences throughout the United States, provide information and support to congregations and spiritual leaders in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas, and expand its monthly report mailings to ministers, pastors, and other faith leaders.
The grant will allow for the implementation of support programs designed for adult survivors of any childhood trauma, expand participation in national conferences and local community fairs and other events, develop an in-person training course for ministers, pastors, and other faith leaders, and develop a curriculum to be included in the educational programs at theological schools and seminaries throughout the United States.
The monies requested will permit Silence Broken to add necessary staff for the specific, non-general, purposes set forth herein. Included will be partial funding for an event planner, and a part-time therapist to direct support groups and develop programs. The monies will permit the production of informational materials, attendances at conferences, and sponsoring seminars and educational sessions.
Silence Broken is committed to helping all survivors of child sexual abuse who seek its services, regardless of religion, gender, age, race, or sexual orientation.
