Provide a summary of the project or program:
In 2013, University Hospital & Clinics (UHC)assumed the operations of the former state operated facility. This commitment helped the region to retain over 700 quality jobs and the medical residency program. This commitment also allowed for the seamless delivery of healthcare for thousands of people who reside in the Acadiana region. Since assuming the operation and management of UHC, the bed capacity has almost doubled, additional physicians have been hired as well as 8 mid-level practitioners to accommodate the increasing demand for medical care. Major renovations and upgrades are needed to improve the existing facility's environment. The replacement of the air heating system is necessary to improve the air quality and for the reduction of utility costs through the installation of a more efficient system. Another major problem is that the main facility's walls leak during times of heavy rain and hurricanes. The exterior of the facility needs to be weatherproofed to mitigate the leaking problems and to help ensure that the hospital can remain operational during a hurricane.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
University Hospital & Clinics serves as the primary health care facility for the people residing in the Acadiana region who are uninsured or under-insured. The existing facility is in need of upgrades to improve the air quality that directly effects the patients, visitors and staff. The main facility also leaks during times of heavy rain and during a hurricane. This problem not only creates a safety hazard, but can also cause the hospital to close, thereby leaving individuals without access to healthcare, including emergency care.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The goals and objectives for this project is to improve the environment through the installation of a new air handling system, which will improve the air quality for patients, visitors and staff; reduce utility costs; mitigate the walls from leaking during times of heavy rain and hurricanes, which will improve safety and the assurance the hospital can remain open during a hurricane.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           16 Months
