Provide a summary of the project or program:
Louisiana A+ Schools is a research-based whole school network with a mission of nurturing creativity in every learner through an arts-integrated school network.

Arts-integration, a national trend, involves infusing some type of art (visual art, music, performing, etc.) into every classroom and every traditional subject (math, science, history, etc.).

Schools commit to a set of eight A+ Essentials which they learn about during the initial Summer Institute. Creativity is nurtured through each of the Essentials so that the adult learner begins to understand the powerful role of the arts to unlock new ways of learning and imaginative strategies to make connections within the curriculum.

Any school (public, private, charter, urban, suburban, rural, PreK3 through 12) can be a member of the A+ School network. LAA+ chose the following eighteen schools to join our network after an intense application process.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Louisiana A+ Schools seeks to improve education in Louisiana through professional development for teachers in arts integration. Each year new schools are added to the network and we provide training to their entire faculties during both the summer and school year.

Our trainings allow teachers to teach in ways that students learn best. Thorough research proves that the arts engage students in the multiple ways that they learn. Additionally, research proves that students taught through the arts have:

1. Higher Student Achievement
2. Better Attendance of Students and Teachers
3. Decreased Discipline Problems
4. Stronger Parent and Community Involvement
5. A More Creative and Joyful School Climate

Plus, the results we see are even more evident in populations that are high poverty and in traditionally struggling schools districts. We know that if more schools adopted our art-integrated teaching methods that more students will have the 21st century skills necessary for success in life. Therefore, if more students are better prepared to enter the workforce, Louisiana will immediately see the economic impact by having a more versatile and skilled population.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The goal of Louisiana A+ Schools is to consistently expand our network of schools. By expanding the network and training more teachers we know we will see students that are more well rounded and have the self confidence for success in life.

Recent research has confirmed that our program achieves the following goals:

Schools yielded tangible successes in school climate improvement, student engagement, and arts integration.

Teachers who attended the LAA+ Summer Institute were significantly more likely to implement arts integration lessons that were highly effective at deepening students' contest knowledge through the arts.

The core feature of the LAA+ model has proven to be effective in training teachers to be engaging arts integration practitioners.

Students are presented with opportunities to grow as critical thinkers and artists on a regular basis in LAA+ arts integration classes.

Parental involvement increased, teachers began sharing arts integration strategies and supporting one another as arts integration practitioners, and students had opportunities to think critically and creatively while collaborating with their peers.

Student engagement in arts integration lessons was generally high.

Teachers employed an interactive teaching approach more frequently than a lecture-based approach. This aligns with several of the Eight A+ Essentials including multiple learning pathways, collaboration, and experimental learning.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
The project is ongoing because new schools are constantly brought into the program.
