What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The Madison Voluntary Council on Aging is an organization whose purpose is to improve the lives and living conditions of our rapidly aging population. Many seniors especially in the economically depressed parishes along the Mississippi River are not able to participate in services that are available in more urban areas. Many of our seniors are surviving spouses and are on very limited incomes. Our community lacks the arts centers, restaurants and activity centers that are available to urban dwellers. The MCVOA provides a gathering place, congregate meals, recreation center and group activities that are so important to our elderly population. The MCVOA offers information services, legal advice, wellness, crafts, recreation and a place for social interaction for this segment of the population. All funding is from the DHH and private donations. With the economically depressed times, the council lacks funding to reach all those in need of senior services.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The purpose of the request is to building a large multipurpose room onto the existing center to provide more services to the seniors and to provide for more seniors. It is the goal of The Madison Voluntary Council on Aging, Inc. to provide needed services to all seniors who are not receiving services from some other source and to provide for those in need of additional services. It is our goals to provide services to every eligible senior in Madison Parish.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
The proposed additional will be completed in eleven months.
