(III) A Concert Hall
A history of hosting world-class performers on The Lincoln Theater Stage is part of what makes the Lincoln Theater so unique. Continuing to bring in musical performances is very important. In observation of its legal contributions, a special honoring of Attorney Johnnie A. Jones, Sr. as one of the legal pioneers of this struggle and The United Defense League of Attorneys were among the organizers behind this movement. Later, all over the nation, in particular; the Montgomery Bus Boycott was led by the Rev./Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who received advice from Rev. Dr. T. J. Jemison on these strategies.

(VI). The MUSICIANS PLAZA At The Lincoln
… Honoring and Celebrating Music & Musicians
On the side of The Lincoln Theater, near its basement door, these once was a shotgun house there that belonged to a lady named Ms. Bert. According to Mrs. Geraldine Ellis of South Baton Rouge, “Ms. Bert House was a stopping place for performers to get a little something to eat… You know they couldn’t go some places to eat and sometimes sleep. Except for the Lincoln Hotel, so Ms. Bert took care of them. It was her little house right next door to the Lincoln Theater, then the Johnson House, then my father’s house. Some of the performers would come to my father’s store which was at the corner of South 14th and Myrtle”.
The Lincoln Theater will preserve the spirit of this site that once held that “little house and its spirit of welcoming performers from around Louisiana and other visiting states as well as the *“Chitlin Curcuit” whose doors opened to host and receive the sounds of entertainers who performed in community theaters, clubs and lounges by dedicating this site as “The Musician’s Plaza.

Founded as a “complex” of services to the community in 1949, plans to provide these programs and services for generations to come is an honor for us all to be a part of and by doing so, we join others in maintaining and preserving the rich history of this community, the city of Baton Rouge and the State of Louisiana.
