           Caddo Council on Aging (CCOA) currently serve home delivered meals to 1,076 seniors throughout Caddo Parish. These meals provide 1/3 of the recommended daily allowances and are delivered four days a week Monday through Thursday and a frozen reheatable meal is delivered on Thursday for Friday (with the exception of ten holidays). The $30,000 state appropriation, will allow Caddo Council on Aging to purchase a van to deliver meals. CCOA has two older delivery vehicles in need of extensive repairs.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          The mission of the Caddo Council on Aging is to help elderly individuals maintain their dignity and independence in their homes and communities through comprehensive, coordinated, and cost effective systems of long-term care, and livable communities in Caddo Parish. Caddo Council on Aging does this by serving as the Parish agency responsible for advancing the concerns and interests of older people and their caregivers, and by working with and through the Aging Services Network to promote the development of a comprehensive and coordinated system of home and community-based long-term care that is responsive to the needs and preferences of older people and their family caregivers.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          The goal is to enable a senior to remain independent in his/her own home and to avoid institutionalization. The senior population is rapidly growing which means that more seniors are in need of daily meals.

           The funding will allow Caddo Council on Aging the ability to continue serving meals
