Provide a summary of the project or program:
The 1925 Strand Theatre, a National Historic Landmark, was rescued from probable destruction, renovated and re-opened in 1984 as a non-profit presenting organization. Listed on the National Historic Register, the Strand is often photographed, filmed for tourism promotions and toured. Since the re-opening, the Strand has played a crucial role in helping to maintain life and activity in the area as well as having a huge impact economically in the North Louisiana parishes that she serves. Restoration and repairs would enable the Strand Theatre to continue providing a quality venue for local and touring artists, and for the local community, culturally and economically. First requested in 2007, the needs of The Strand have now become critical. The repairs and renovations to the Strand Theatre that are needed: 1. Complete the third floor restrooms - plumbing was roughed in during the 1978-1984 renovations, but never completed. 2. Rework basement plumbing and sump pump system. 3. Replace antiquated hearing impaired system, to comply with ADA regulations. 4. Repair and replacement of the stage fly system. 5. Loading dock door and lift replacement. 6. Overhead plaster repair - requires extensive scaffolding. 7. Replace stage flooring - top covering - due to age and water damage. 8. Replacement of the weathered doors and upgrade of closers and hardware on interior doors. 9. Upgrade of fire evac systems and controls. 10. Asbestos abatement - backstage stairwell, office stairwell and HVAC house on roof. 11.Building exterior waterproofing. 12.Upgrade/Install new elevator. 13. Electrical needs - rewire and replace elements on marque and upgrade of outside safety lighting. Previous years' requests included replacing the HVAC chiller, tinting large plate glass windows, replacing all fluorescent lighting with LED, and adding handrails in the balconies - this work has been completed out of necessity. Also out of necessity, new repairs are required and have been included. The request for 20-21 reflects the work done and that money included in the match, therefore, the request total has changed, while the amount expected from the state remains the same.
