           This program supports the creation of a community learning center that provides academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in common core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          The purpose of the "Intergenerational Center" is to promote cooperation and learning between the youth and older adults. This will be achieved with the assistance of several community stakeholders such as the EBR Council on Aging, several retired teacher organizations, and with the assistance of the education departments at Southern University and Louisiana State University.
The "Intergenerational Center" will include a state of the art computer lab were students will have access to vital learning aids, research tools, and interact access. In addition, young people will educate older adults on how to comfortably access the worldwide web, various social media websites, and how to download and access phone applications. State funds will be utilized to purchase desktop and laptop computers, tablets, printers/copiers, and all other necessary lab equipment.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          For the project, much as already been accomplished. The fire station located at 3820 Gus Young Avenue, Baton Rouge, La 70802 is nearly finished with renovation and construction. The EBR Council on Aging has secured the support of retired teachers who are very excited about taking part in the programs at the “Intergenerational Center”, and with the support of Rep. C. Denise Marcelle and other state officials our community will have access to much needed technology and learning services.
