           This project is working to revolutionize how we think, teach and learn about Louisiana's disappearing coast by providing hands-on educational opportunities focusing on Louisiana's wetlands for K-12 students and visitors to the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center. This request will enable our educational site to expand the Live Wetlands Exhibit and Educational Pavilion located at 86 Valhi Blvd. in Houma, LA. This expansion will include the Water Quality Observation Deck and associated power and lighting along with the parking area and outdoor event infrastructure.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          The purpose of the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center is to revolutionize how we think, teach, and learn about Louisiana's disappearing coast. Our programs focus on developing adaptation skills in our young people. By doing so, we ensure the survival of our culture along with our workforce. These funds will further our capacity to reach both students and adults by expanding our educational campus to offer a more diverse set of programs and events.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          The Center is working to achieve its mission by developing a campus that will consist of a partially sheltered amphitheater, a wetlands nature exhibit, and three educational buildings. The 10,000 square feet of educational buildings will house gallery exhibitions and a laboratory. In addition, there will be 17,000 square feet of exterior boardwalks and a reflection pool. The completed campus will provide 27,000 square feet of educational space. This project is designed to be developed in four phases with phase 1 being completed by the end of 2020. Along with working to construct our campus, we produce several educational programs throughout the year including Coastal Classroom, Swamp Camp, Project Resilience, Vanishing Points, and others.
