Empowering the Community for Excellence is a community-based , non-profit organization that provides free tutoring and mentoring services to low-income underachieving students. ETCFE provides an educational environment that partners certified teachers and degreed professionals with these students. Tutoring sessions are aligned with the State of Louisiana Common Core Curricula, and students are given remediation in skills in which they are deficient and reinforcent in skills they grasp. ETCFE goals are to improve students' scores on all assessments in Language Arts and Math. ETCFE uses the IXL Diagnostic Computerized Program. IXL is designed to help the student learn at his her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on the students' demonstrated understanding of the material. Tutors and volunteers also assist students with homework and serve as reading partners with students as they read and discuss stories and books. The Leader In me Program is also used to help students build character and become responsible learners. Motivational speakers are brought in on a regular basis to address and motivate students. Activities are planned which require students to follow directions and work with others such as scrapbooking, painting, gardening, science experiments, voting, exercising for good health, and playing golf. What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Empowering the Community for Excellence provides a free after-school tutoring program to the community for low-income underachieving students. Our students are mainly students performing below grade level expectations in reading and math. They have not develpoed a love of reading and do not read outside the classroom. Since reading is fundamental to their success, we want to change their attitude about reading and expose them to a variety of books, model reading, and give them opportunities to enjoy reading and realize the wealth of information they can get from reading. Many parents aren't able to assist their children with Common Core math homework, so our tutors are there to assist them. Students are often at a disadvantage in the classroom because of poor self-discipline. ETCFE reinforces a program introduced in the schools that teaches the ideals of being a leader and taking responsibility for their learning. All of which are necessary for their success in school and life.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Empowering the Community for Excellence program goals are to improve students' scores on all assessments in Language Arts and Math. ETCFE uses the IXL Diagnostic Computerized Program. IXL is designed to help the student learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on the students' demonstrated understanding of material. All results are saved, and the teacher can monitor his or her progress. In Language Arts students may learn more efficiently and meet the challenge to achieve more at a faster rate which includes vocabulary building, comprehension, and critical thinking activities. Student to teacher oral reading, questioning, and discussion are also used to help students. Performance Measures in Language Arts: Classroom Discipline Reports provided by parents, Quarterly IXL Language Arts performance reports, and students' nine weeks school report cards provided by parents. The IXL Computer Diagnostic Assessment in mathematics is used to determine student deficiencies so they may learn more efficiently and meet the challenge to achieve more at a faster rate which includes core concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, numeration, measurement, problem solving, geometry, and algebra.
