           This request is for an additional supplemental funding for Phase IV of the museum's original project. The initial request involved renovation and an addition to the Doc Voorhies Wing of the Bayou Teche Museum, which is a two-story historic building next to the existing museum, that the City of New Iberia purchased for $195,000. The museum, which opened in 2010, is owned by the City of New Iberia; and is operated by the New Iberia Museum Foundation. Since 2010, the City used grants from Iberia Parish to replace the roof and gutters, re-point all the brick, and waterproof the exterior of the building. A master plan was developed and prior capital outlay funding was received for the renovation to the existing first and second floors that included a main gallery and multi-use classroom, multi-use space with balcony, recording booth, small gallery/children's dress-up area, research library and archive. A two-story addition was built to include an elevator, catering prep room, restrooms, janitor's room, supply room, table and chair storage area, circulation space, stairwell, processing and archive sorting room, archive room, and equipment areas. The renovations also included electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems upgrades. The current outlay funding requested is expected to be used to complete the museum’s renovation and addition that was not able to be completed due to the unexpected high construction costs. The remaining construction needs include: window inserts and shades for the first and second floors, shelving and storage cabinets for the research library, exhibit track lightning, metal wall liners, movable art walls, attic insulation, converting a lift shaft to 2 rooms, rear canopy for the loading dock, exhibit signage, and kitchen appliances for catering use. There will be little or no planning cost for the requested items as well as miscellaneous/contingency costs.

          The mission of this multi-purpose facility is to provide a gathering space that will engage and educate the public by preserving and sharing collections, stories and memories, that define the community's identity, guide the future and enrich the lives of the residents in the Iberia Parish community. In view of the numerous event that will take place at the museum, this project will also foster economic development and tourism in the area.

          The mission of the Bayou Teche Museum is not only to educate the public about the region but also to preserve the history and culture that shaped this area. Our mission is to share our research with all residents and visitors in informative and entertaining formats. Our goal is to grow our collections capacity as we expand into our new wing allowing more community education in more conducive environments as well as fostering economic development and tourism in the area.
