Provide a summary of the project or program:
The YWCA Greater New Orleans (YWCA GNO) is a tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 nonprofit social services organization that has been making a positive difference in people's lives in the greater New Orleans area for over a 110 years. This long-standing institution has been dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
The facilities of the YWCA GNO was destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Funding for the construction of a new facility has been provided from sources including FEMA and State of LA Office of Community Development. However, there are some items that are not covered by these funds and Capital Outlay funds are sought to provide funding for the supplementary items needed to operate a fully functional facility.
The mission of the Board of Directors is to rebuild the physical structure of the agency and re-establish programs benefitting women, children and the elderly in the Greater New Orleans area.
Currently, there are family violence and early education service gaps in the New Orleans community. Similar facilities, although operational and providing services, simply do not have the capacity or wherewithal to meet all of the existing needs in the city.
This project will supplement funding greatly needed to build the physical facility for this community organization. Funding for a newly constructed building has been acquired, yet there are unfunded enhancements and equipment necessary to provide adequate services to be housed in the building.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
This is a community impact organization whose purpose is to provide social service support to youth, women, elderly and families in the Greater New Orleans area through transformational programs. The use of state monies will allow the YWCA to not only help fill the gap in the lack of family community resources available throughout the multi-parish area, but also provide sustainable solutions to address current and persistent needs. Current Services are stretched thin and sometimes can’t provide immediate assistance to those in need.
It will additionally provide:
Job creation/Economic Development helping vulnerable part of our community while providing continuity of services to families. It will additionally restore/ strengthen the neighborhood/community; part of the Tulane/Jefferson Davis corridor revitalization, as well as support the overall livelihood and economic development goals of the region.
For this project, the match funding was awarded by FEMA and based on the bid amount, totaling $8,160,000. The project costs covers the 17,000 square foot facility but does not include related immovable property necessary to operate a fully functional facility. Capital Outlay funds will allow the YWCA to accomplish that goal.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Mission of the Board of Directors is to rebuild the physical structure of the agency and re-establish the hallmark programs benefitting women, children, and the elderly in the Greater New Orleans area, and the goals are to help women and families through needs based programs and services.
The goal is also to complete the construction project, so the YWCA Greater New Orleans can provide the transformational programs it has been known for, including Daycare, Parenting Classes, Youth Enrichment, Domestic Violence Counseling, Rape Crisis Programs, and Senior services. The objectives include obtaining supplemental property necessary to operate functional facility.
What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
