The state of Louisiana houses a rich and diverse demographic of various natural resources. However, our climate is changing and the earth is heating up exponentially; reducing our climate footprint has become a necessity. Natural disasters are occurring more frequently and disaster preparedness is a must. Our desire is to continue the semi-annual occurrences of the “Re-Igniting Community Awareness” events where health and safety will remain critical topics of conversation.
During each event our desire is to offer (400) households a solar generated radio/battery pack. These devices will ensure families retain some element of electricity for usage for items such as: lighting and cell phone charge. Being that these items will be charged via solar, this will ensure residents maintain a mode of communication.
The event will include presenters and/or panelist. We will offer the public friendly entertainment, door prizes, and light refreshments will be served.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
Green the Church National is a sustainability initiative designed to tap into the power and purpose of the Black Church Community and expand the role of churches as centers for environmental and economic resilience. As the Environmental Organization of the Black Church, we strive to teach faith communities, environmental organizations, and the individual practitioner how to work in concert in order to “Green” the Black Church.
Green the Church has been in existence since 2009 and has offered workshops, seminars, annual summits, and virtual academies. We contribute to such networks as Climate Action Campaign (CAC), Cancer Free Economy Network (CFE), and Solar Energy Innovation Network (SEIN). We currently partner with Berkeley School of Theology offering a COHORT entitled “Creation Care/Greening the Black Church, and we strive to not only share resources but also promote the environmental work of Black Churches.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Our dynamic of leading a community in sustainability initiatives includes offering a holistic approach catering to the spiritual, economic, and well being of the individual. We are concerned with the quality of air, the safety of water, and the ability to live a life that is free from toxic abuse. We are also in support of assisting communities as it relates to the frequency of natural disasters within our state.
We seek to educate and grant all persons resources as it relates to healthy living; however, we realize that black and brown communities often suffer from pollution and toxins in ways that are greater than the average citizen. And it is our desire to empower these persons.
Green the Church Louisiana is an affiliate chapter of Green the Church National and we are excited to serve the state of Louisiana.
What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
12 Months
