Provide a summary of the project or program:
Expertise: The organization was incorporated on January 5, 2020 and received IRS tax-exemption in March
2020. Its board of three has the skill sets necessary to meet the mission. Mission: “Strengthening Minds and
Creating Lasting Legacies”. Activities: Current programs include homework assistance and tutoring, financial
literacy to include budget management, proficiently accessing banking services, use of money, managing debt
and benefits of good credit scores. Educational field trips/events are incentives to expose andexpand youth
awareness of opportunities in their future. www.citizensaboutprogress.wordpress.com.
Problem and Solution: The president consistently saw youth in schools and colleges struggling with debt that
would eventually hinder them from progressing in life. Evidence of college debt, bad credit from bad spending
and bad money management habits, poor work habits leading to constant employment terminations were all too
often characteristic in his clients. Terrell Mendenhall, BS, AA, is a previous Campus Recruiter for a project
targeting students at Historically Black Colleges with money management education to mitigate the problems listed above. CAP targets 25 youth in elementary schools in Springhill, LA with an intervention and prevention
strategy two hours, three days per week in the out-of-school hours and five hours, 4 days per week during June
each summer. Impact: Target youth and their families have necessary supports or wrap-around services needed
to make responsible and progressive financial choices about their futures. Youth will receive early interventions
in responsible citizenship and give back as contributing individuals leading their community to good works to
improve the quality of life for all. Students are excited about graduating on time, furthering career choices,
attending colleges and/or trade schools and know what needs to be done to get there. Satisfaction surveys,
sign-in sheets, photos, original receipts, report cards, staff sheets, new articles, flyers and program narrative and financial reports are used to measure outcomes.
