Provide a summary of the project or program:
The University of Louisiana System Foundation proposes to launch an immersive international learning experience for 20 high-achieving students across its nine universities during the 2025–2026 academic year. This initiative, titled the ULS Scholars Abroad Program: Paris 2025–26, will provide students with a life-changing opportunity to explore global perspectives, develop cross-cultural competencies, and expand their academic and professional horizons through a structured experience in Paris, France.
The program’s central objective is to promote global awareness, leadership development, and academic enrichment for students—many of whom will be traveling internationally for the first time. Participants will engage in a thoughtfully designed itinerary that blends cultural immersion with educational and career development components. Activities may include university visits, historical and cultural site explorations, professional networking events with global industry leaders, and reflection sessions to connect their experiences abroad to their academic and career goals.
This initiative aligns with the System’s broader mission to prepare students to lead and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. It supports key priorities such as educational access, student success, and global engagement. Special emphasis will be placed on selecting a diverse cohort of students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and financial need—ensuring that the experience benefits those who may not otherwise have the means to participate in a study-abroad program.
Funding will be used to cover travel expenses, lodging, meals, programming fees, and essential travel documentation, minimizing financial barriers for student participants. By removing cost as a barrier, the Foundation ensures equitable access to this transformative experience.
In addition to the direct student impact, the program will create ripple effects across all nine institutions. Participants will be tasked with sharing their experiences upon return, through presentations, mentoring, and leadership in student organizations. This peer-to-peer learning model fosters a culture of global curiosity and ambition across the System.
