Provide a summary of the project or program:
This project is for a facility to house the Senior Center/Wellness Center and Council on Aging Administrative office. The Senior Center will be a center to provide meals, recreation, education and wellness programs. The Administrative office will administer all essential services to the senior citizens for Pointe Coupee parish. At the current stage of planning the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging is implementing new construction. The property has been purchased in June 2023 and is located on Memorial Blvd. in New Roads. Currently the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging is operating out of two separate buildings on the Pointe Coupee General Hospital campus, which are owned by the Pointe Coupee Health Service District No 1. The current facilities are extremely old. The New Roads Senior Center has only 1 small bathroom for all seniors and staff and the buildings are in need of major renovation. It was determined that renovation is not feasible to meet the project goal. The new facility will enable us to attract more seniors to participate in the overall wellness programs and services that we offer. The project is now ready for groundbreaking and start construction. Construction is estimated to be completed in a year. Due to construction cost being over bid amount, modifications were made not to stop the progress. We are still need of a back parking lot for staff and agency transit vehicles and a generator for the building. The project consists of site manager office, restrooms, dining room, waiting room, kitchen, supply room and wellness/activity room. The administrative office consists of Executive Director’s office, Assistant Director’s office, Transportation Manager’s office, Service Coordinator’s office, Bookkeeper’s office, Receptionist’s office, Program Assistant’s office, Training and work room for direct staff workers and Conference Room. Pointe Coupee Health Service District has agreed to additional funds for the capital outlay project ($525,000) and operating cost after the project is completed. Our current request will used for completion of parking lot in the back of the building and generator for the building to be able to maintain services. This will be a great investment for the seniors in Pointe Coupee parish.
