Provide a summary of the project or program:
The Ed Modicue Boxing Gym of Monroe is committed to engaging in a proactive effort to address youth violence, low morale, and community decline in the Southside area of Monroe, Louisiana—specifically the neighborhoods surrounding the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. Many students in this area, enrolled in Monroe City and Ouachita Parish schools, face significant social and economic challenges that often lead to frustration, school disengagement, and poor life choices.

Program Components

Boxing and Fitness Training: Conducted by certified trainers focusing on self-discipline, health, and perseverance.

Mentorship Circles: Weekly sessions on anger management, decision-making, and leadership led by community mentors and counselors.

Street Captains Program: Organizing neighborhood teams to promote safety, cleanliness, and civic pride through projects such as block cleanups and school support drives.

Parent and School Partnerships: Collaborating with Monroe City and Ouachita Parish Schools to identify participants and track behavioral and academic progress.

Target Population
Youth ages 10–18 (4th - 12th grade) living in South Monroe, particularly those in economically disadvantaged households or identified by schools as at-risk.

Expected Outcomes

Engage 50 - 100 youth annually in structured boxing, mentoring, and service activities.

Achieve measurable reductions in school suspensions and local juvenile incidents.

Form at least 10 Street Captain teams to support neighborhood improvement and safety.

Increase participants’ sense of purpose, responsibility, and community pride.

The Southside Boxing Gym will partner with local schools, law enforcement, and civic organizations to ensure long-term impact. Additional funding will be pursued through private sponsorships, small grants, and community fundraisers to sustain operations beyond the initial legislative support.

Conclusion
This initiative directly supports Louisiana’s commitment to youth empowerment, crime reduction, and community revitalization. By teaching life lessons through the discipline of boxing and organizing positive neighborhood leadership, we can help young people channel their energy toward productive and respectful living - especially those students living in the community surrounding the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.

The requested $100,000 investment will lay the foundation for a safer, stronger, and more united Southside Monroe—one young leader at a time.
