Provide a summary of the project or program:
Hearts of Hope CAC is an organization that specializes in assisting children who are victims of severe physical abuse and sexual abuse. The organization offers a comforting environment where children can receive therapeutic intervention, forensic interviews, and support services. The Hearts of Hope program educates children about the court system, builds trust, and reduces fear. Additionally, coping skills and improved self-esteem are taught to prevent future trauma.

Before Hearts of Hope CAC was established, victims had to recount their experiences to various agencies, and there was no centralized location for victim services. Hearts of Hope CAC provides a safe, collaborative environment for children who have experienced sexual assault or severe physical abuse. A trained forensic interviewer interviews the victims, and all interviews are reported to law enforcement or the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) in the presence of law enforcement or DCFS agents to prevent discrepancies that can make it difficult to prosecute cases.

Hearts of Hope has established multidisciplinary teams to support child survivors and their families. Additionally, the organization conducted a caregiver survey to help identify service gaps and assess the quality of care given. Hearts of Hope provides training opportunities for staff members, volunteers, and allied health professionals to improve victim care. Monthly multidisciplinary meetings are held to train first responders better and ensure collaboration to provide victim-centered care, promote advocacy and therapeutic intervention for survivors, and support the prosecution of substantiated sex crime allegations. Expanding Hearts of Hope services throughout the region would significantly enhance the care of victims.
